The itinerary for this trip is laid out such that the gain in altitude is very gradual. That way we can acclimatise our bodies slowly and we minimise the risk of altitude sickness. I have completed the Everest Base Camp Trek using this itinerary many times and it has proven to be very effective.
Drive from Kathmandu to Salleri. Passing by Pattale Village, one of the best view points of Mount Everest (8848m) and Makalu (8463m), we spend all day driving through beautiful Nepalese countryside.
Trek to Nunthala. We start our trek with a comparably easy day as we pass over small streams and hilly gorges. Eventually we can get a first glimpse of one of the high mountains on our trek: Numbur Himal (6958m).
Trek to Bubsadanda. After crossing the Dudhkoshi River we pass through lush forests while we get to enjoy one encircling panorama after the other.
Trek to Surke. While finally trekking to the starting point of the main Everest Trekking trail, we enjoy the unique landscapes in this region of Nepal.
Trek to Phakding (2610m). The trail ascends and passed through the big Sherpa village of Chaurikharka as we join the trail that comes from Lukla, which is famous for being the closest airport to Mount Everest.
Trek to Namche Bazaar (3440m). On this day we will cross 5 suspension bridges as we enter Sagarmatha National Park, where our permits will be checked. Hiking through lush forests and along waterfalls finally we get our first view of the mighty Mount Everest.
Today we will spend in the area of Namche in order to give our bodies time to acclimatise for the high altitude. But don't you worry, there is a lot to discover including perfect view points of several high mountains as well as a local museum.
Trek to Tengboche (3874m), a small village but home of the biggest monastery in this region of Nepal. Furthermore we will get a perfect view of Ama Dablam (6814m), one of the most beautiful mountains in Nepal.
Trek to Dingboche (4400m). During the day we will start to notice the change in vegetation that comes with the high altitude. Trees will give way to occasional bushes while the sight of Ama Dablam will always be to our right.
Trek to Lobuche (4910m). The trail starts our relatively flat until we reach Thukla (4600m) to take a break. Then we have to master a sharp climb to Thukla pass (4800m), the location of various memorials build for Everest summiteers, who list their lives during expeditions.
Trek to Gorakshep (5180m) and hike to Everest Base Camp (5364m). In the morning we climb Lobuche pass and then continue our trek through moraines beside Khumbu Glacier until we reach Gorakshep. From here we hike towards the Everest Base Camp before we return back to Gorakshep for the night.
Hike to Kalapatthar (5545m) and trek to Pheriche (4200m). In the early morning we start our uphill climb of Kalapatthar, where we will enjoy a majestic sun rise over the Himalayas. The breathtaking views of Everest, Lhotse, Nuptse, Pumori and Ama Dablam will make you instantly forget the hard work of the past days that was necessary to come here. Eventually we have to trek down to Pheriche, where we will rest for the night.
Trek to Namche (3440m). Even though we return on the same trail we came from, we don't overlook the stunning landscapes that surround us while the altitude decreases and we feel how our bodies get stronger with every step.
Trek to Lukla. Retracing our path, we will trek down to Lukla, where as this marks the last day of trekking, we will enjoy our last evening together.
Fly back to Kathmandu. In the early morning we will take the plane back to Kathmandu. During the flight, we will enjoy our last views of the high mountains that surrounded us through the previous days while on the trail.
During our time on the trek we will sleep in so called Tea Houses. A Tea House is a small private lodging that is usually run by a local family. We will get our breakfast and dinner at the Tea House we are sleeping that night. For the lunch we will rest at a Tea House on the way. As the distances between Tea Houses are in general never more than 3-4h of trekking, we don't need to carry full meals.
Tea Houses are run by local families and offer basic comfort.
It is possible to choose from traditional Nepalese dishes like Dal Bhat or western food, like Pasta.
Please remember that while Nepalese people work very hard to offer the best possible comfort to visitors, the places you will visit are very remote and all supplies need to be carried by Mules.
I have found that the best experiences for my customers are those where I handle all the planning and bookings, ensuring that every detail is taken care of. That's why I offer all-inclusive packages, which take the stress and worry out of the equation for my clients. They can simply relax and enjoy their trek, knowing that everything is taken care of and that they are in good hands. I believe this is the key to a truly unforgettable and enjoyable experience in the Himalayas.
